The European monograph mentions heartburn and indigestion as one of the uses of milk. The popular heartburn product, Iberogast, contains milk and eight other herbs. In three studies, Iberogast improved indigestion, stomach pain and heartburn. It has been around for 40 years and has good security.
Milk thistle is a mild bitter taste. It is speculated that bitter drugs can reduce indigestion by increasing the secretion of gastric acid and digestive enzymes and activating the vagus nerve. However, due to lack of clinical research, it is not known whether thistle alone can reduce indigestion. Iberostat, a multi-ingredient formula containing it and other herbal bitters, can improve indigestion.
There is insufficient evidence.
Only limited low-quality clinical studies can support the following stated benefits.
There is insufficient evidence to support the use of milk milk for any of the purposes listed below.
Remember to talk to your doctor before taking its supplements. It is forbidden to use milk thistle instead of approved medical therapies.
The liver is healthy:
The protective effect of milk thistle on the liver was studied, with mixed results. Proper testing is rarely conducted. Two rigorously designed studies are of no benefit. A recent extensive analysis of 17 clinical trials concluded that the effect of silymarin on lowering liver enzymes ALT and AST (common markers of liver damage) is of little clinical significance.
Some scientists are studying whether that can increase the level of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione, affect inflammation and liver scarring, detoxify drugs and toxins, or help liver tissue regeneration. However, there is a lack of solid clinical data to support any of these effects.
