Pterostilbene is widely found in a variety of small berries and red wine. Several studies have shown that it can clear anti-tumor ，which is expected to develop into an effective anti-tumor drug.
Pterostilbene and resveratrol are both stilbene compounds, the hydrogen atoms of the 3,5 hydroxyl groups on the benzene ring of resveratrol are replaced by methyl groups to become pterostilbene. At present, there are many studies on resveratrol, which has inhibitory effects on a variety of malignant tumor cells, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer and some malignant hematological diseases. Pharmacological studies have shown that methylated stilbene compounds have higher biological activity and bioavailability than hydroxylated stilbene compounds. Therefore, it is reasonable to infer that it has a stronger anti-tumor effect than resveratrol. it has the effects of anti-oxidation, lowering blood lipids, lowering blood sugar and moderately inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2, it can significantly inhibit the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of many tumor cells. Cichocki et al. pointed out that the various biological activities are better than or at least not lower than resveratrol. Research by Ruiz et al. showed that it has good safety.
Around the anti-tumor , many studies have been carried out, the results show that Pterostilbene has obvious anti-tumor effect on certain tumor cell lines and animal models, which has been studied in colorectal cancer. The formation of atypical crypt foci is considered as a preneoplastic lesion of colon cancer. Suh et al. found that eating a diet containing it in rats can inhibit the formation of heterotypic crypt foci induced by azoxymethane. Further studies have found that this effect is related to the ability of it to inhibit colonic epithelial cell proliferation and inducible nitric oxide enzymes. The expression is related, suggesting that it may have a preventive effect on colon cancer. Focusing on the relationship between inflammation and colon cancer, Paul et al. further explored and found that it may play an anti-tumor effect by reducing the expression of certain inflammatory factors such as inducible nitric oxide enzyme and cyclooxygenase-2. The next study found that pterostilbene can inhibit the expression of B-catenin, cyclin D1 and c-myc in animal models or HT-29 colon cancer cells, and these three are recognized oncoproteins.
