How has pterostilbene extract progressed in cancer therapeutic research?

It is also able to inhibit the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor by tumor cells, with the potential to have an inhibitory effect on tumor angiogenesis.

Breast cancer:

Studies pointed out that pterostilbene inhibited the proliferation of human breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, which Induces tumor cell apoptosis mainly by promoting mitochondrial membrane potential depolarization and upregulating the activity of cysteine proteolytic enzyme (easpase) 3, 7. It also has an inhibitory effect on the invasive growth of tumor cells. Activated human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 signaling pathway with nerve growth factor B-1 to enhance invasion, motility, and deformability of breast cancer MCF-7 cells, their study demonstrated that pterostilbene extract downregulated MMP-9 expression at the transcriptional level , it could decrease MMP-9 activity to inhibit malignant invasive growth and migration mediated by nerve growth factor B-1.


Other tumors:

Pterostilbene extract also showed obvious anti-tumor activity in other malignant tumor cell lines. A study found that pterostilbene significantly inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cell lines nci.h460 and sk-mes. 1 in a time - and concentration dependent manner. Mannal et al found that it could inhibit pancreatic cancer cell line miapaca and PANC-1 proliferation by inducing cycle arrest and apoptosis.Wang et al found that inhibited the growth of an androgen dependent prostate cancer cell line, LNCaP.
